One of the most important questions that the students are confused about. Is that if Turkish universities require IELTS as one of the required steps for them to apply. Students from all over the world can study in Turkey in many disciplines such as social sciences, health, art, computer, engineering, architecture, management, business, and development subjects without having to give any IELTS. If you hold your last attended degree in the English language, then you can apply for admission at most Turkish universities.
The students who study their major in English have to go through two stages. This is during the registration before they start their studies. They will have to complete an English Proficiency Exam conducted by their chosen university of studies.
English proficiency test without IELTS
If you want to study in Turkey without IELTS, you would still have to give a test. In case of passing the exam, the student will enter their major directly. While in the case of failing the exam, the student must finish a preparatory program for the English language. This is only for 1-2 semesters if the student’s level of English is medium.
In case the student has completed a required score in TOEFL exam, they can be exempted from the English Proficiency test as well. Every university have their own English Proficiency test, but they are similar to each other and all of them consists of the following 2 stages:
1- Placement Exam
2- Proficiency test
Both of these tests are relatively very easier than IELTS for studying in Turkey. This also does not require much preparation, as they are done just to see the English level of a particular student. The test are also free of charge.
1- Placement Exam
This is conducted face to face on campus. The exam consists of 20 reading and 30 language based multiple choice questions. Along with 2 short paragraph writing tasks as well. Once successfully completing this stage, the student is directly admitted to the second stage, which is the Proficiency test.
2- Proficiency Test
This test measures the reading, speaking and writing skills of a student. Students who receive a grade of up to 60 and above are eligible to start their undergraduate studies at the university. On the other hand, the students who receive the score below 60 are placed in the preparatory program.
Rest assured, you do not have to worry about IELTS while studying in Turkish universities and just go through the Proficiency test. For any more details and information, do not hesitate to contact the Studykoy staff. Contact us here
