Issa decided to talk to us about his experience of studying and working together in Turkey, as this topic is very popular among potential students.
How I managed to balance between studying and working?
He starts by saying, “Unfortunately, studying and working together in Turkey is a bit difficult. This is because the daily work is not less than 8 hours a day. This will be difficult to match with your studies, but if your relationship with the employer is good, you can make a deal with him about the number of hours and days to work in. Or resort to working freelance and online. My experience was with online work so that I could give my studies time. I was able to reconcile between studying and working in Turkey by organizing my time, which was an influential factor in my success in both my studies and my work.”
Where to work?
“I will mention to you some areas of work in which students usually work, in tourist hotels, restaurants and cafes. It is better in these areas to work in the summer to not feel pressured during the study, especially as it requires your time and effort. If you have experience in marketing, you can work with student services companies or marketing companies. However, you can work online or as a part-time worker, and here you can match your studies with your work as you will be. I see that work has a very important role, especially if you are an international student. Through work, you will make friends, and increase your circle of acquaintances,. Also, you will feel you have people here that you can turn to at any time and feel stable.
Change the experiences you gain, work under pressure, and finish the tasks that you have to do in a specific time. This develops your skill and personality. Moreover, you will benefit from the work environment you surround yourself with, and learn new things from work friends or from your manager at work. All of this will help you in the future.”
Issa exclaims, “You will get to know different Arab nationalities and local Turkish people as well. You will see that this thing is very interesting. And here, if you want to learn the Turkish language by engaging with Turkish people at work this will help you very much in improving your Turkish and knowledge of general terms and street language.
Working abroad builds self-reliant
Finally, working in Turkey can have negatives, including long working hours and effort and your sense of responsibility towards your work. You might also start feeling like you are not able to enjoy life or do things that your friends are doing because you are always at work. But I assure you, it will help you a lot in the future. Not relying on your family and only relying on yourself for your monthly expenses is a wonderful feeling. It will make you feel that you have become self-reliant. Getting your first salary is a truly indescribable feeling. I am fully confident that your experience in any work of any kind will change your personality. You will become a responsible person.”
