Shayma wants to talk about her experience in student activities and volunteer work. She says that she loves helping students very much. “I want to help new students at this stage. This is because I faced a lot of difficulties and problems in my first year of university. I use my experience to help them by giving them advice on which major to choose, organizing time, etc.
The student’s participation in the student activities helps them to acquire experience and develop their skills. They can also make use of their time for an important thing, which is helping others.”
Student activities
Shayma further adds, “In my university, there are more than 50 student clubs. Some of them receive a huge number of students and some do not. Students are usually interested in football clubs, basketball clubs, camping, etc. Others always tell me that participating in these activities or doing some voluntary work makes you a social person. In my case, I have always been a socially outgoing person who loves to help others as much as she can. My participation in volunteer work and social activities made me understand and learn a lot of new things. I also took a course in first aid. This is so that if I encounter any difficult or critical situation, I would be able to offer help. I would like to tell the students who come only to study the whole day to make some time for extracurricular activities as well, as it is not good for mental health to not participate in something that brings you happiness every once in a while. Istanbul is a country full of events, conferences, and festivals. It is okay to enjoy your time here. However, my point is that it is not necessary to go to these events. You can also walk along the coast, even if only for half an hour, so you can recharge your energy.”
Love for volunteering
She says, “And since I am a pharmacist, of course, I will take advantage of my loving personality to help in my field of specialization. I will hear the patient their complaints if they have an allergy to a certain substance, their medical history, and the medications he takes so that no chemical reacts with another substance. Also, I would like to do a doctoral in Clinical Pharmacy, because through this specialization I can help the doctors as well. Some say that Istanbul is a cosmopolitan country, and life is fast, so things such as volunteering work are almost non-existent. I do not agree with this opinion, because if you have a love and passion for this, you can play a big role in charity and volunteering.”
